Bella watched him sneaking around from the peephole and rolled her eyes. She couldn't be bothered with his games and pulled the door open.
She paused when she saw the dark bruises and fresh cuts mottling Lucas's face.
Did she hit him that hard? she wondered.
She knew Lucas made his living off his strikingly handsome looks. If she had actually ruined his face, he would have harassed her to the end of the earth for compensation.
Because of that, she had deliberately avoided hitting him in the face.
Which meant someone else had beaten the absolute hell out of him.
"Did you piss someone off?" she asked dryly.
Hearing her voice, Lucas flinched and stepped aside. Two massive men suddenly materialized from the shadows, blocking Bella's doorway before she could even react.
But Bella Ward wasn't one to back down. She narrowed her eyes. "Who the hell are you? Who gave you the right to trespass? Get out of my way before I call the cops."
Lucas finally raised his head, his voice trembling. "Miss Ward, they're from The Grand Sapphire Casino. They're here for Ms. Harris. She owes the casino a $1 billion debt. She isn't answering her phone, and no one can find her. They knew we had a connection, so they cornered me to get to you."
Bella obviously knew about Debbie's staggering gambling debt.
Honestly, Debbie Harris was a piece of work. She had conned Bella out of millions, and now she owed a billion to a casino? Bella seriously suspected the underground gambling ring had set her up.
How could a normal person blow that much cash in such a short amount of time?
Unless she spent every waking hour glued to a blackjack table, it was physically impossible.
Then again, it suddenly clicked.
