As Bella came downstairs, she overheard the three men indulging in their delusional fantasy.
She couldn't hold it back and let out a sharp burst of laughter.
Brandon's face darkened instantly. "What's so funny? Why is it that every time you come home, you're either mouthing off or smashing things? This family doesn't owe you anything."
Empowered by the prospect of her massive divorce settlement, Bella didn't even bother to hide her disdain. Everyone knew exactly where they stood. Now that Martin and Sabrina were married, they technically formed a family, but it was a fragile alliance that would shatter under the slightest pressure. Aside from mutual financial gain, none of them actually wanted to see the others succeed. So, no one was pretending anymore.
The Mercers wanted her settlement money for their company, and they wanted her to run their Tech Division. But there were no pleasantries exchanged between them. If Bella invested and took the job, it was strictly to line her own pockets. It was a relationship built on pure exploitation, and no one forgot it for a second.
But compared to the Mercer men, Bella was at least tethered to reality. She knew their pathetic scheme would never work. Although she didn't know Lillian perfectly, everything Lillian had done recently proved she wanted absolutely nothing to do with the Mercer family. If she was determined to cut ties, no amount of crawling would win her back.
So, she naturally found their plotting hilarious.
"I laughed because it's funny," Bella sneered, walking over and taking a seat on the living room sofa. "Since Lillian went public with her identity, have any of you actually managed to speak to her? Brandon, you used to be able to storm her office and force a meeting. How's that working out for you now? The security is locked down, isn't it? You can't get into Halfridge Villas, she blocked your numbers, and she won't see you. And you really think an apology is going to magically erase the past and make everything fine? You guys are unbelievably naive."
