Grace watched Sabrina's performance coldly, saying nothing.
Seeing that Grace was unmoved, Sabrina's cries grew louder, and she began to slap her own face, hard.
*Smack!*
*Smack!*
The sharp sounds echoed, each one louder than the last.
"I deserve to die! It was me who was bad to you! I was biased, I'm not human!"
"I'm begging you, Grace!"
She then began to bang her head against the cold concrete, again and again.
Soon, her forehead was bleeding.
"Think of your father, he's old and his health is failing. The company is really finished. Please, just help the family one last time!"
"That was your grandfather's life's work!"
"If you don't help us, we'll really have to die!"
"Our whole family will have no choice but to jump from the roof of the Hart Group building!"
It was the ultimate emotional blackmail.
Using blood and threats of death to prey on her conscience.
Grace looked down at the woman who had once seen her as a thorn in her side.
She remembered the time she'd had a high fever as a child, and Sabrina had locked her in her room, giving her no food or water.
She remembered when Lilian had broken their father's favorite antique vase, and Sabrina had grabbed her by the hair, forcing her to confess that she had done it.
She remembered every time Lucian had hit her, Sabrina would just stand by with her arms crossed, a cold smirk on her face, saying, "Serves her right."
Those memories, steeped in blood and tears that she had deliberately forgotten, now surfaced with horrifying clarity.
And now, this very woman was kneeling before her like dirt, clinging to her leg, trying to trade cheap tears for her sympathy.
Grace felt no satisfaction at all.
She slowly took two steps forward, stopping about three feet away from Sabrina.
When Sabrina saw the high heels appear before her, her sobs stopped abruptly. She looked up.
Her eyes met Grace's, which were as calm and still as a frozen lake.
"Are you finished?"
Grace spoke, her voice just as terrifyingly calm.
