Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 19

Three days after settling in at the lab, Grace made a decision.

She had to go back to the Hart family home.

Not to make peace, and not to argue.

But to retrieve the only thing her mother had left her.

An old, dusty wooden chest she had hidden in the deepest corner of the attic.

Inside were a few of her mother’s clothes and some photographs.

It was her last connection to any warmth or affection in the world.

Damien seemed to have anticipated her intentions, as his assistant, Felix Warren, tactfully suggested sending someone in her place.

Grace refused.

This was her business.

She had to get it back herself.

Felix didn’t press the issue, simply arranging for a car to take her to the edge of the Hart family’s residential area.

Staring at the familiar yet chillingly cold building, Grace took a deep breath and, despite her body not having fully healed, walked toward it step by step.

She had assumed no one would be home at this hour.

But as she opened the main door with her old passcode and stepped into the luxurious but cold living room, a sharp, feigned cry of delight rang out.

“Grace! You’re finally back!”

Lilian fluttered down the spiral staircase from the second floor like a butterfly.

She was dressed in a pink designer outfit, her makeup flawless, looking radiant.

It was a stark contrast to the simple white shirt and jeans Felix had provided for Grace.

Lilian grabbed Grace’s arm, her face a mask of innocent concern.

“Grace, where have you been the last two days? We were worried sick!”

“Who was that man in the car the other day? Where did he take you? We tried calling you, but we couldn’t get through. We thought something had happened to you...”
