He was weak, but his gaze was as sharp as a hawk's.
He wore an oxygen mask, and his hand trembled as he pointed at Martin.
"You… animal…"
Martin's legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the floor.
"Brother? You're… you're awake?"
How was this possible?!
The doctor had clearly said he was unlikely to ever wake up!
Damien walked to the bedside and took his father's hand.
"Dad, did you hear all that?"
Edgar nodded with great difficulty.
Two lines of tears streamed from the corners of his eyes.
It was the pain of being betrayed by his own brother.
And the guilt he felt toward his son and daughter-in-law.
The attending physician spoke in a low voice, "Mr. Clarke has a very strong will to live. He heard the argument outside, became agitated, and forced himself awake."
Edgar's hand trembled as he motioned for the lawyer to approach.
The lawyer quickly produced a digital recorder and some documents.
Edgar removed his oxygen mask and, with all his remaining strength, spoke, one word at a time.
"I… Edgar Clarke… hereby declare my last will…"
"All shares… and decision-making power… of the Clarke family…"
"Are to be transferred… in their entirety… to my son… Damien…"
"Martin… for his deceit… for plotting against his brother… and for colluding with our enemies…"
"Is to be expelled… from the Clarke family…"
"And handed over… to the police… for prosecution…"
After saying those words, Edgar seemed to have exhausted all his energy, gasping heavily for breath.
Martin was utterly broken.
"Brother! Brother, I was wrong! I don't know what came over me!"
"Brother, please forgive me! I'm your own brother!"
Martin scrambled toward the bed, trying to grab Edgar's hand, but Damien kicked him away.
"Take him away."
Damien commanded coldly.
