The police car left the rugged mountain roads and merged onto the highway.
The steady hum of the engine filled the car with a strange, heavy silence.
Elliot's hands tightened and loosened on the steering wheel.
He kept glancing at the back seat through the rearview mirror.
Grace's eyes were still closed, her brow furrowed in pain.
"Captain, where are we heading now?"
the colleague in the passenger seat asked quietly.
"Back to Jarrow City?"
They were still hundreds of miles from Jarrow City, and Grace's current condition was clearly not suitable for a long journey.
"To the nearest county hospital first."
Elliot made a swift decision.
"The cuts on her feet need to be treated, and..."
Elliot paused, his eyes darkening.
"She needs a full examination."
And a rape kit. They needed evidence.
It was brutal, but it had to be done.
It was the only way to ensure the Fenwick father and son went to prison.
"What about... Mr. Clarke?"
his colleague asked cautiously.
After all, Damien had helped with this operation.
Though he wasn't physically present, the technical support and the pressure he applied had all come from the Clarke family.
At the mention of that name, Elliot Ashcombe's expression turned to ice.
"Don't tell him yet."
Elliot didn't elaborate, clenching his jaw.
If Damien hadn't pushed Grace to the brink in the first place, she never would have run off to this godforsaken place.
She never would have ended up in this situation.
Damien was the real culprit!
"But…"
The colleague looked troubled.
"Mr. Clarke's people are waiting in the county seat. And they have a helicopter ready."
Elliotslammed on the brakes.
The tires screeched against the pavement.
"What did you say?"
"Right as we were heading into the village, Mr. Clarke's special assistant, Felix, contacted me."
The colleague shrank back a little and took out his phone.
"He said... Mr. Clarke is here too. He's at the county hospital."
Damien's here?
