“Hey, one order of noodles, with sausage and an egg!”
“Coming right up…”
Just as Cassian was about to start cooking, he heard a low rumble.
A motorcade of black Rolls-Royces was slowly driving down the dilapidated street.
Damien’s car.
The window slowly lowered halfway.
Cassian instinctively ducked his head, using his filthy sleeve to hide his face, terrified of being recognized.
He was too ashamed of how he looked now.
Inside the car, Grace looked through the window at the familiar figure.
He used to be so full of ambition and confidence.
“Stop the car,” Grace said coolly.
The motorcade came to a halt.
Felix got out, holding a bank card, and walked over to the food stall.
“Mr. Hart.” Felix placed the card on the greasy countertop. “This is from the missus. There’s enough money in here for you to open a small shop back in your hometown and live out the rest of your life in peace.”
The surrounding vendors and passersby cast envious glances.
A card like that probably had hundreds of thousands of dollars on it.
Cassian looked at the card, his whole body trembling.
No matter how far he had fallen, he was still Cassian Hart, a graduate of a prestigious university, the former eldest son of the Hart family!
Was he now supposed to live on handouts from the sister he once trampled under his feet?
“Take it back!”
Cassian snatched the card and, with a sharp snap, broke it in half in front of everyone.
“Tell her! I’d rather starve to death than take her damn money!”
He threw the broken card on the ground, his eyes bloodshot, as if he was trying to scream out all his remaining dignity.
“I don’t need her pity! Get out! All of you, get out!”
Felix watched him with a blank expression, as if looking at a clown.
“Mr. Hart, this is your last chance.”
“GET OUT!” Cassian shrieked hysterically, even grabbing a spatula to chase him away.
Felix shook his head and returned to the car.
“Ma’am, he refused.”
