Cassian flinched at Damien’s intimidating presence but remained defiant. “This is our family’s private business!”
“Family business?”
Grace laughed, but her eyes were bone-chillingly cold. “The moment you pushed me down the stairs, the moment you forced me to give Lilian my blood, the moment you decided to sell me to Julian for your own gain—that was the moment I stopped having a family.”
“Grace, don’t you go too far!” Cassian pushed up his glasses. “Lilian is your sister. She’s frail. You lived in this house, what’s wrong with contributing a little? We raised you all these years, and this is how you repay us?”
“Raised me?”
Grace threw a file onto the table.
“This is a detailed record of the Clarke family’s financial support. From childhood on, my tuition, my living expenses, even the rent for my tiny, run-down room, was all paid by the Clarkes. Besides the beatings and cold shoulders, did the Hart family ever give me a single penny?”
The faces of the Harts turned a kaleidoscope of colors.
Of course, they didn’t know.
They had always seen Grace as a weed that could survive with a splash of water, one whose death would be of no consequence.
“And this.”
Grace tossed out another file. “This is the evidence of the Hart Group Pharmaceuticals’ fraudulent activities over the past few years, along with records of tax evasion. Brother, don’t you pride yourself on being an intellectual? How could you dare to cook the books with such amateur mistakes?”
Cassian trembled, a cold sweat instantly soaking through his shirt. “You… how did you get these…”
“If I want to find something, I can find it.”
Grace stood up. “I didn’t call you here today to reminisce.”
“Mr. Clarke has completed a full acquisition of Hart Group Pharmaceuticals. From this day forward, the company is under the Clarke name.”
“And I am the new director of technology.”
“In other words, from now on, you’ll have to answer to me.”
“Or…” Grace’s lips curled into a smile. “You can choose to get lost and join Lucian and Lilian in prison.”
