On the other end of the screen, Lottie Grant was bundled up in a thick down jacket, with the streets of Evershade Marches in the background. Though her nose was red from the cold, her face was filled with a happy smile.
"Grace, I have great news!"
Lottie excitedly waved her gloved hands. "I've decided to come home for the holidays this year! And… Mark is coming with me!"
Mark was the boyfriend Lottie had met in Italy.
Grace was infected by her friend’s good mood, and the corners of her mouth lifted. "Really? That's wonderful. Grandma will be overjoyed."
"Hehe, and I have a generous gift ready for Gianna!" Lottie leaned closer to the screen. "By the way, I saw Dorian Hart in Italy last month. He said he was looking for a woodworker to make a gift for Gianna. Did you receive it?"
At the mention of Dorian, Grace's smile faded slightly.
"Yes, I did."
"What did you do with it?"
"Gianna kept trying to chew on it, so I put it away."
Lottie burst out laughing on the other end. "He doesn't even have a wife. How would he know what kind of toys are suitable for a baby?"
After hanging up, Grace looked out at the night sky, feeling a wave of emotion.
There was a time when she thought her entire life would be spent in darkness.
No family, no love.
Every year during the holidays, the Hart family's home would be brightly lit, filled with laughter and joy.
Meanwhile, she would be cleaning the Ward family's house from top to bottom, like a servant.
She wanted to go home, but Lucian Hart called her a jinx and forbade her from returning for the holidays, claiming she would ruin Lilian Hart's good fortune.
But now, she had Damien Clarke, Gianna, and a grandmother who treated her like her own.
Lottie Grant was coming back too.
It turned out that happiness was truly within reach.
Damien walked in with a plate of cut fruit. "What are you thinking about?"
"I must have used up all my luck to have met you," Grace said, taking the glass of milk he offered. The warmth spread from her fingertips to her heart.
Damien sat down beside her and speared a slice of strawberry and gently fed it to her.
