Grace swayed as the door to the interrogation room closed.
“Ma’am!”
Felix rushed to steady her. “Don’t worry, Mr. Clarke is on his way. And Mr. Wilson is already preparing the paperwork. We’ll bail her out the first chance we get.”
Grace stared at the shut door, consumed by self-reproach.
“Elliot.”
She turned to Elliot, who had been standing by with a guilty look on his face. “Do you have any sway in there?”
Elliot looked troubled. “The economic crimes unit is handling this case. It involves a huge sum of money, and the media is all over it… But I can request to sit in on the interrogation and do my best to make sure they go easy on Miss Dawson.”
“Please,” Grace’s voice was almost a plea. “Don’t let them scare her. She gets frightened so easily, really… please don’t scare her.”
A heavy weight of guilt settled in Elliot’s chest. He had been in Jarrow City for a year now and had gotten to know Grace’s best friend a little.
Ivy was straightforward and kind, a genuinely likable and good-hearted girl.
“Don’t worry. I’m going in now.”
Elliot pushed the door open and went inside.
The hallway was empty except for Grace, Felix, and Mr. Wilson.
Time ticked by, second by second.
Grace leaned against the wall, Ivy’s calm face flashing in her mind over and over.
And Serena’s triumphant smile.
She lifted her head, wiped the tears from her eyes, and her gaze hardened with resolve.
What was the point of crying? She had cried for five years, and what did it get her?
“Felix.”
Grace had regained her composure. “Contact the media.”
“If Serena wants to use public opinion to ruin Ivy, then I’ll use it to save her.”
“Also, look into a company called ‘Stellar Tech.’”
Grace narrowed her eyes. “If she wants to play dirty, then she can’t blame me for what comes next.”
If it was time to settle scores, she would settle all of them, new and old.
Felix’s spirits instantly lifted.
“I’ll get on it right away!”
