“What are you looking at me for?” Ethan’s voice was as cold as the depths of a frozen lake. “Are you expecting me to take you to a doctor?”
He leaned down, instantly closing the distance between them.
The posture was intimate, but the words that came out were utterly merciless. “Grace, can’t you stop using these cheap tricks to get attention?”
His warm breath brushed against her face, but it felt like a biting wind, sharp and painful.
Grace’s fingers clenched. Her heart felt like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand, making it hard to breathe.
This was the man she had loved for five years...
Even when she was covered in blood, he just saw it as a plea for attention.
If he saw her hanging from a rope one day, would he just assume she was on a swing?
Grace took one last, deep look at Ethan. In the end, she said nothing and, dragging her bad leg, limped away.
...
The Hart residence.
Cassian and Lilian had just gotten home when an international package arrived.
It was an invitation letter for Grace from the OrionVale Institute of Advanced Studies.
Seeing the large, gold-embossed letters at the top, Cassian’s brow furrowed deeply.
When did Grace get accepted by OrionVale?
Was she planning to leave?
Lilian came closer. Noticing the strange emotion in Cassian’s eyes, she said softly, “That’s the top research institute in the world. Brother, haven’t you sent them your resume many times, only to be met with silence? How could she...”
She suddenly covered her mouth, her tone one of surprise. “Could she have been scammed?”
The strange feeling in Cassian’s heart instantly vanished.
That was it. If he couldn't get in, how could Grace possibly have been invited?
She must have paid someone to make a fake invitation to create the illusion that she was leaving, all in a desperate bid for attention.
So manipulative.
“Her methods are getting more and more despicable. To think she could win our attention back with this... what a fool’s dream!”
Without a second thought, Cassian tore the invitation letter to shreds and threw it into the trash can.
