Laurinda noticed Adolphus scanning the room, clearly searching for someone. She raised an eyebrow and asked, “Who are you looking for?”
Adolphus glanced at her. “Locke wants to meet you. Should we go say hi?” He waited for her answer, making it clear they’d only go if she wanted.
Laurinda wasn’t surprised by his reply. Since Adolphus’s grandparents had shown up for the Bill family’s birthday banquet, it would have been strange if the other Lane family members weren’t here too.
“Alright, let’s go,” she said.
Adolphus spotted Locke standing in a quiet corner. He took Laurinda’s hand and led her over, but Abigail was nowhere to be seen.
Locke was in the middle of an intense conversation with someone named York. They were deep into the technical details of how FarrVector’s newest product could be used in weapons radar systems.
York noticed Laurinda and Adolphus approaching. He nodded a quick greeting, then kept explaining the software to Locke.
Locke was so focused he didn’t even realize anyone else had joined them. He just wanted to seal the deal with York as soon as possible.
“York, would you be interested in working together? After hearing your thoughts, I really believe your company’s software is exactly what we need,” Locke said, eager to move forward.
York was caught off guard by the sudden proposal. He glanced instinctively toward Laurinda.
Locke followed York’s gaze and finally noticed Laurinda and Adolphus standing behind him. He blinked in surprise.
“When did you guys get here? Laurinda, you know Mr. York?” Locke asked.
