From Ashes of Scandal to His Embrace (Laurinda) novel Chapter 295

Aileen furrowed her brows, not understanding why Laurinda would bring up the car accident now.

“I really had no idea about what happened to your parents. Aiken mentioned that the accident happened because the brake lines were cut, but I swear I don’t know who did it.”

Laurinda watched Aileen closely, searching her face for any sign of a lie. In the end, she believed her. There was nothing else she needed to ask.

“You want me to look after Aggie and Lawrence, but we need some boundaries here. I can’t spend the rest of my life protecting them, you know? I get that you wouldn’t trust me if you had any other option. But I’m not stupid, either. I can’t just trust you for no reason.”

Aileen was caught off guard. She’d thought her offer was strong enough to make Laurinda agree, but now it seemed Laurinda wasn’t all that eager to get involved.

She started to panic a little. “Laurinda, I know you keep your promises. I can give you what you want first. You just need to help Aggie and Lawrence leave the country and give them some money to get started. My aunt can handle the Charles family and make sure they don’t go after the kids.”

After she finished speaking, Aileen turned to a nearby police officer and asked for a pen and some paper. She quickly scribbled down a sequence of numbers.

“This is the password for a safety deposit box at Northland International Bank. I trust you’ll be able to get it. Please, just help them get away. Will you do it?”

Laurinda stared at the password on the screen, hesitating for just a second before she nodded.

“Alright. Once I get the item, I’ll arrange for them to leave the Charles family as soon as possible, sort out their paperwork, and get them out of the country.”

For the first time, Aileen felt truly grateful to Laurinda. She had nowhere else to turn. Even if she resented Laurinda, right now, Laurinda was the only person she could rely on.

After the call ended, Laurinda got in touch with her contacts in Northland right away. In less than half an hour, she had the USB drive from the safety deposit box in her hands.

Worried about data leaks and possible viruses, Laurinda told her people not to open it. Instead, she had them mail it directly to the police station in Cabinda, where Aileen was being held.
