Isaiah POV

“Mr. Saunders sends his regards.” The gunman says as he is pulling the trigger, and the gunshot is heard.

Every nerve ending shoots up immediately as I tackle that fucker to the ground. His gun scatters to the ground. I looked up, and Mr. Fellman had Kaia covered with his own body on the ground.

“KAIA!?” I called out, panicking.

“I’m fine! I’m fine, Isaiah!” She calls out, and I feel a sense of relief. Then rage rises as I see two police officers running out of the courthouse. They must have heard the gunshot.

I pick the bastard up with one hand, “Who is Mr. Saunders?! Why does he want Kaia dead?!”

“What?” I heard Kaia say behind me. “Did you say, Mr. Saunders?”

I looked at her, “Yes. He said, ‘Mr. Saunders sends his regards’, before he pulled the trigger.”

Kaia’s eyes reddened, and tears started flowing freely. Mr. Fellman caught her as her knees buckled and she almost hit the ground. I would pick her up, except I’m holding her attacker. Who the fuck is Mr. Saunders?

The policemen come and handcuff the guy. I tell them quickly what happened and that he was hired to kill Kaia. The policemen look at my mate, and she is now sitting inside the car with the door open.

“Ma’am, do you know who Mr. Saunders is and why he wants you dead?”

Kaia is in shock and staring off into space when Mr. Fellman starts speaking.

“Officers, I am her attorney. Mr. Saunders is her father.”

“WHAT?!” I said loudly. “Her own father just tried to kill her?!”

Kaia bursts into tears again. I kneeled in front of her. “Baby, listen to me, that bastard isn’t going to get away with this, okay? I promise you.”

She throws her arms around me and cries harder. “Why? Why can’t I have a dad like yours? Why does mine hate me so much?”

The officers are still talking to Mr. Fellman, and then they turn to Kaia. “Ms. Saunders, we understand from your attorney that you are recently divorced and your father stood to gain a lot from the marriage. Is that correct?”

Her eyes are swollen, and her nose is red from crying. She wiped her tears, stood up, squared her shoulders, and began speaking.

“Mr. Saunders is my father. The prenuptial agreement I signed with my ex-husband said that my father would get fifteen percent of Black Enterprises if he and I stayed married for five years, and then my husband could divorce me and take my premarital assets. I suspect that because we divorced after three years, and the assets are all in my name, he sent this man to kill me. That way, he would get all of the assets, seeing how I don’t have a next of kin.”

“Yeah, let’s go to the airstrip. I want to go home.” She said, looking at me.

Mr. Fellman gives us a ride to the airstrip. Before we leave, he tells us both, “This hit was from your father. We don’t know who the next person will be to try to take out a hit. Until the paperwork clears and you get a last will and testament established, you need to be careful, Kaia.
