Sinclair POV
“Yes! I was a twin! Don’t act like you didn’t know!” I growled.
Diljit is yelling at me to let his wife go, but Aric is in his face, telling him to let this happen. There is plenty he doesn’t understand, but will.
“I didn’t,” she said defiantly. “If I had known, I would have grabbed you both!”
I read about hunters in the Blackstone library. Thalia told me that her grandfather and Aiden spoke to her about it a while back. I decided I wanted to understand those kinds of threats, so I delved into learning. They have their own weaknesses. They are still human, even if they are strong. A common problem with them, though, is that they are emotional. That’s how they screw up. As long as they can keep control of who gets emotional, they control the events.
I am too numb and used to being mistreated and spoken down to for my entire life. She won’t get to me. I am worried about Aric though.
I start extending my claws and dig them into her neck. “Why did you grab me? What did my parents do to you?!”
She laughed, “Poor little girl. Bitter about being left behind. Honestly, I thought the rogues I hired killed you.”
Aric started growling. She was trying to unsettle our emotions. Unfortunately for her, I’m still in control.
“Aric, enough,” I said, my voice ice cold.
“So you were behind my sister’s murder? Let me guess, you put a hit on my parents too, didn’t you?”
She started laughing menacingly. “It was satisfying.”
That’s all she said, and it was more than enough.
“A confession is one thing; now, how about we talk about your motives? Hunters don’t attack unless they feel like their territory is being invaded. My parents weren’t invading, and neither were newborn pups. So what was your motive, Cherise?” I asked calmly.
“Cherise, you killed a girl and her parents? You kidnapped this woman?” Diljit asked.
“Shut up, Diljit. You know nothing of the creatures of this world. You go to your company every day, oblivious to the threats around you. People like me…hunters…take care of those threats so you can continue living your oblivious life,” Cherise spat.
Look who’s getting emotional now.
“Diljit,” I called out. “Don’t let her gaslight you. My kind don’t like being in the human world. I’m here for answers because I was dumped in an orphanage by your wife and her first husband.”
“First husband? Cherise, you said you had never been married before.”
I laughed hard, “My, my, Cherise, you are a Pandora box of surprises, aren’t you?”
