I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 335

Without hesitation, I slapped Mrs. Lancaster. Under her stunned and incredulous gaze, I offered a faint smile.

“It seems you’ve forgotten how I sent you and your younger son to the hospital last time. With so many people here today, I was trying to be patient for Mr. Lancaster Sr.'s sake, but you just kept pushing. If I don't act, this scene will never end.”

“Steven didn't give me any alimony. If you don't believe me, you can go ask him. Why are you yelling at me? I hate being yelled at. If you shout one more word, just one, I’ll slap you again.”

Ryan’s jaw dropped, then he gave me a huge thumbs-up!

Mrs. Lancaster’s eyes burned with fury as she stared at me. She clearly remembered what happened before and was a little rattled, but the public humiliation of being slapped was too much to bear. She raised her hand to strike back, but Ryan grabbed her arm and shoved her forcefully away.

He seemed truly angry. “You dare try to hit my sister again? You old hag, you must have a death wish!”

My heart warmed with a strange, fuzzy feeling.

Steven's mother had bullied me many times, countless times across two lifetimes. But I had always fought my battles alone. No one had ever protected me like this.

No one had ever thought that a mother-in-law bullying her daughter-in-law was a big deal. Yet here was Ryan, shielding me like a mother hen protecting her chick. My eyes suddenly stung with tears. We had only reconnected a few days ago, but he had already slipped into the role of a protective younger brother.

Mrs. Lancaster stumbled back, nearly falling.

The wealthy woman rushed over to support her, scolding loudly.

“What do you think you’re doing? Ganging up with another man to beat your elder? You’re truly heartless!”

Mrs. Lancaster burst into tears, pounding her chest. “It must have been the worst luck in the world for the Lancaster family to marry a woman like this! She’s trying to send me to the hospital! And this time is even worse, she brought her lover to help!”

“What did I do to deserve this? Call my son! Get him over here right now to see how his wife is bullying his own mother!”
