“The grandchildren are also leaders in their respective fields. They’re incredibly well-connected. Plenty of wealthy people want to get close to the Lopez family, but few can get into their circle. However, I heard the Lopezes are planning some kind of banquet soon. Apparently, Mr. Lopez Sr. found his long-lost granddaughter, and she’s a genius designer, extremely talented.”
“The Lopez family is probably at the auction today to pick out a gift for that hidden youngest granddaughter. That boy is from the Lopez family. Weren’t you looking for a new wife for your son? You can’t afford to offend him. He might just be your son’s future brother-in-law.”
Mrs. Lancaster suddenly looked thoughtful.
They were too far away for me to hear what they were whispering about. I just stared coldly at Steven.
“Steven, I’ll say this one last time. Your mother misunderstood at first, but even after I told her we were divorced, she kept harassing me. I lost my patience and slapped her. If you want to avenge her, then come at me. If not, I’m leaving.”
If I weren't afraid that Steven would retaliate against Ryan later, I wouldn't have stood here and let him confront me. But if Steven dared to do anything to me, I wouldn't mind hitting him in public.
Ryan quickly added, “You should tell him everything you went through! She was the one who started it, calling you a bitch one minute, then saying you couldn’t have children the next, and then even saying you were worse than a dog. Are those things a human being should say?!”
“And the worst part was when she said your ex-husband gave you a lot of money in the divorce and demanded you give it back, or she’d throw you in a fish pond to drown! Who could tolerate that? Of course you’d slap her to bring her to her senses.”
Hearing that, I couldn't help but smile. This kid was mixing truths with lies so well that even I would have believed him if I weren't the one involved.
Mrs. Lancaster became agitated. “I never said I’d throw her in a fish pond to drown! You little…”
She was about to insult Ryan but was pulled back by the wealthy woman and swallowed her words, her face a mask of forced restraint.
Ryan snorted. “You said it. You were the one bullying her first!”
Steven shot Mrs. Lancaster a cold look. “Are those words you should be saying? You talk about the Lancaster family’s strict principles, yet they haven’t managed to curb your own vulgarity?”
