My father couldn't get through to my phone, so he'd sent me a series of texts from an unknown number.
—"Zephyra, how the hell dare you divorce Mr. Lancaster? Do you have any idea how lucky you were to marry into the Lancaster family? Did you get my permission to divorce him?!"
—"Get your ass back here right now! If you don't answer my calls, don't ever come back to the Jones family. If I can't deal with you, I'll smash your mother's memorial tablet and scatter her ashes! We'll see how tough you are then, you ungrateful brat. You don't want your father? Does that mean you don't want your mother either?!"
—"I'm telling you, if you want me to calm down, you will go beg Mr. Lancaster to take you back. I don't care how you do it—get on your knees and kowtow if you have to, but you must remarry him! You have to be Mrs. Lancaster, even in death you will belong to the Lancaster family, or you'll be sorry!"
I gripped my phone, my fingers trembling with rage. My face was taut as I shot to my feet.
"Rachel, Horace, something's come up. I have to go back to Ixia. You guys carry on."
Rachel immediately noticed something was wrong and stood up. "Zephyra, what happened? I'm going back to Ixia too. Why don't you come with me?"
Horace also took my hand, his brow furrowed with worry. "Zephyra."
My face was cold, and though I spoke quickly, my voice was unnaturally calm. Inside, a storm of fury was raging. I wanted to kill that monster!
Was he even human?
My mother slaved away for him her entire life. Cheating on her and having another daughter was one thing, but now he was threatening to desecrate her ashes? Even if it was just an empty threat, he had no right to say it!
The bastard! The absolute bastard!
"I got divorced, and my father is furious, smashing things at home. It's fine, I can handle it. I just need to go back," I said, looking at Rachel and forcing a smile through my anger. "Your flight is tonight, which is too late. I have to go now."
Go back—and teach him a lesson!
I was too soft on him. Last time I only dealt with Janice. I should have taken him down too!
