His words stunned me, and I looked at the man on the bed, his face clouded over.
While I no longer liked Steven, I had to admit he had some good qualities. He was filial; Mr. Lancaster Sr. could say almost anything to him, and he'd take it. Even today, after being berated, he hadn't uttered a word of protest in front of the old man. He just listened quietly, not even making a sound when he was hit for the first time. He was a mature and reserved man, and it was nearly impossible to guess what he was thinking when he was silent. As the head of Aether Studio, he could be swamped with work but would still remember to call his grandfather, making time to visit and check in on him. For him to say he was "done with the Lancaster family" was a huge statement.
It was clear Steven was furious and hated the idea of me becoming his sister.
Mr. Lancaster Sr. stared at Steven's dark expression, his own heart aching with anger as he clutched his chest.
"Do you want another slap? Fine, be done with it! Zephyra can be a strong, independent woman, and you can go wander the streets and reflect on your actions!"
Seeing his grandfather in pain, Steven's face tightened, and he didn't dare talk back. "Gordon, call a doctor."
"Yes, Mr. Lancaster." Gordon quickly agreed and left the room.
I rushed to support Mr. Lancaster Sr. "Grandpa, don't be angry. Please, sit down for a moment."
Mr. Lancaster Sr.'s face was a little pale, but he shook his head to reassure me. "I'm fine, child. I'll feel better after taking some medicine."
I immediately poured him a glass of warm water. The old man took a bottle of pills from his pocket, took his medication, and sat down to catch his breath.
He was genuinely upset. He probably never expected his most beloved grandson to behave this way.
Mr. Lancaster Sr. looked into my eyes, his expression growing even more affectionate. "Zephyra, you still haven't answered me. Do you want to continue being part of my family? That brat is a disgrace, but I genuinely adore you. If he won't protect you, I will."
Ryan scratched his head and said meekly, "Sir, if you really like Zephyra, why not just make her your honorary granddaughter? If you adopt her legally, I'm afraid my own grandfather might get jealous. He's barely had a chance to see Zephyra yet."
I looked at Mr. Lancaster Sr.'s sincere expression, a warm feeling spreading through my chest. My eyes reddened slightly as I agreed.
"Grandpa, a legal adoption isn't necessary. But from now on, I am your honorary granddaughter. And for your birthday, I will definitely be there."
