I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 407

Horace chuckled softly, sounding very pleased.

As soon as we hung up, Ryan glanced over at me, grinning mischievously. "Was that your future husband? Is his next round of the competition starting?"

I hummed in agreement. Ryan chattered on, saying he wanted to come watch too, since he could still enjoy his freedom for a little while longer before being dragged off to his own training.

I didn't object, but my mood felt strangely heavy, and I didn't feel like talking.

We arrived at the hospital soon after. Julian had been positively glowing ever since he shaved his beard. He was handsome and charming, but his heart condition often left his face pale, which pained me every time I saw him.

I greeted him, and Julian always responded with a warm smile. "Don't worry about me. I'll be fine after the surgery. Now sit down. I got you lots of treats today. Look."

He pointed to a long table laden with exquisite pastries and rare fruits. At a glance, there had to be at least a hundred different items.

My eyes widened. "Uncle Julian, why did you buy so much?" Even with the three of us, we could never finish all this.

Julian said, "I just gathered a small selection. I didn't know what flavors you liked, so I bought a bit of everything."

Ryan let out a "wow" and complained to Julian, "Julian, you bought her stuff again without telling me! I know so many delicious fruits! This is barely anything. And these pastries... the ones from home are way better. They're delicate, delicious, and beautiful. Look at what you bought—all these random things that are expensive and don't even taste good."

He had barely finished speaking when Julian smacked him on the head.

"You talk too much. I don't want to hear it."

Ryan immediately looked at me with a pitiful expression. "See what Julian's like?"

Julian said gently, "Zephyra, try some."

"Okay," I couldn't help but smile. I used a small fork to pick up a pastry I'd never seen before and took a bite. It was sweet but not cloying, with a fresh, fragrant taste. "It’s good."

Julian beamed. "I'm glad you like it." He then shot a triumphant look at Ryan. "See? She likes it."
