Steven's gaze was icy. He didn't argue or respond, just told him to do it and hung up.
I was completely unaware of all this. The bodyguards quickly caught up to us.
Just as Linda and I were about to sit down and order, she got a call from Myron. Her expression turned awkward as she looked at Jacob.
“Mr. Taylor urgently needs the project proposal you were working on. Do you have it with you?”
Jacob nodded obediently. “It's at the hotel, but I haven't finished it yet.”
“He needs you to handle it right away. Mr. Taylor said it's urgent.”
Jacob took the hint. “Alright, I'll head back to the hotel to work on it now. You two go ahead and order. Just send me the bill.”
He gave me a slight smile and a nod, then turned and left.
I frowned. Linda rubbed her head and coughed awkwardly.
“I never knew Mr. Lancaster was so possessive. It's almost pathological. Poor Jacob.”
Neither Linda nor I were idiots. It was obviously Steven's doing, getting Jacob out of the way.
My expression was cold. “Some men are just pathetic. They only want what they can't have.”
Linda disagreed. “Mr. Lancaster is hard to read, but even before I knew who you were, I sensed something between you two. I think he has a thing for you, it's just much more obvious now.”
“Today, he was clearly on your side. I actually think you're the one who's harsh on him.”
My brow furrowed. This was even more vexing than hearing Steven say he liked me.
Steven's personality seemed to have changed a lot since the accident, in a strange way I couldn't quite place.
He was getting weirder and more difficult to deal with. I had a bad feeling about this.
Still, I had my career to focus on. No matter what happened, I couldn't let it affect my performance in the competition.
“Making money is what matters. Besides, I have a boyfriend. He's not important.”
