I shook my head.
I would rather die than go back to Steven.
He said, “Then come with me. We’ll be together. I will love you with all my heart. Whatever Steven can give you, I will give you. And whatever he can’t give you, I will give you that too. Zephyra, trust me.”
I looked up at him, my eyes unavoidably turning red. “Okay.”
If we couldn't win, we could run. Besides, studying abroad would be better for my career. My mentors were overseas, and Mr. Taylor would surely agree.
Horace leaned down and kissed my forehead.
“Zephyra, you can take your time learning to love me, but please don’t talk about breaking up so easily. It would break my heart. Just now, I really thought I was going to lose you. Have some pity on me, won't you?”
I let go of the suitcase handle and wrapped my arms around him tightly. “Okay, I promise.”
Horace hugged my waist with equal force, taking a deep breath as if to compose himself. Then, with one hand, he took my suitcase, and with the other, he took my hand, and we started walking back.
I walked silently beside him. He seemed to have lost some weight, but he looked even more handsome. He and Steven had completely different auras. Steven was impeccably polished from head to toe, with an understated, aristocratic air that screamed old money and warned strangers to keep their distance.
Horace, on the other hand, was like a gentle scholar, serene and refined. His features were sharp and defined, and his eyes seemed to hold a deep affection for everyone he looked at.
In my youth, I was always drawn to untouchable, brilliant men. But after all the ups and downs, I found I preferred someone who liked me, regardless of anything else.
If I were to seriously consider marriage, Horace would be the perfect choice.
In front of the van, the heavyset man saw us and broke into a wide grin. He seemed more respectful than before, his attitude surprisingly friendly.
“Ms. Jones, I’m Horace’s agent, George. The one you spoke with on the phone.”
I nodded. “Hello.”
