Ryan, still looking shaken, explained in a flurry of words.

"I told you before, didn't I, that Leonard was hurt by a woman? She was terrible. Leonard was completely devastated for a long time, just a wreck. Everyone in the family hates her, and Grandpa strictly forbade Leonard from ever seeing that wicked woman again."

"In the last few years, Leonard pulled himself together. He threw himself into his career, working hard and moving up. Everything was great except for the fact that he was still single. I thought he had moved on, but who knew? Today, one phone call from that wicked woman was all it took to pull Leonard right back in."

"Grandpa happened to overhear it, and they argued. Well, it wasn't really an argument; it was mostly Grandpa losing his temper. He doesn't want Leonard to have anything to do with her, not even answer her calls. Leonard said he knows what he's doing, which clearly means he wants to know what's going on with her, and that just made Grandpa furious."

I was completely baffled. How terrible could this woman be to make Grandpa so wary?

"Is he going to see her now?"

"I don't know. Leonard seems cold, but the truth is, whenever this wicked woman shows up and says a few nice words, he falls for it immediately," Ryan said, frustrated. "I just don't get it. Why now of all times? She's been gone for five years without a word. Why did she have to reappear today?"

I frowned as well. In my past life, I hadn't been close with the Lopez family, so I had no idea if this woman had come back to find Leonard, or if his heart would be broken all over again.

With Grandpa still furious, bringing up the subject of marriage was clearly not a good idea.

I glanced at Horace.

Horace stood beside me and squeezed my hand reassuringly. He looked at Ryan, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Don't worry too much. Leonard isn't the naive young man he once was. He's a businessman who's dealt with countless greedy people. If that woman tries to deceive him again, he'll see right through it."

"I hope so. I'm just afraid of some huge disaster. That woman traumatized me so much that I'm now scared to date girls who are too smart," Ryan sighed, finally noticing Horace's leg. "Hey, is your leg better?"

Horace explained, and Ryan chuckled. "It's great that your leg is better. Now you can protect Zephyra."

"You're here to see Grandpa, right? Go on in. Maybe you can help him cool off."

I was about to answer when Horace spoke first, a gentle smile on his face.

"I'm here to ask for her hand. I want to marry Zephyra."
