I followed him.
Steven opened the car door for me, and I slid into the passenger seat. As he leaned over to fasten my seatbelt, I pressed myself against the seat, trying to create some distance, but his scent filled the air around me, impossible to escape.
I furrowed my brow slightly, and then his fingers tilted my chin up. A scorching kiss followed, conquering and plundering like an invading army, laced with a punishing roughness.
Trapped between his body and the seat, I instinctively raised my hands to his chest to push him away, but a sudden thought made me freeze. I let him kiss me.
Steven seemed to sense my compliance, and his kiss gradually softened, becoming tender and lingering. It was too much; I couldn't take it and pulled away.
He opened his eyes and stared at me, his gaze fixed. We were too close, and my heart began to race wildly.
What was I seeing? It looked like... love... in Steven's eyes.
Steven continued to stare directly at me, a smile playing on his lips. "I'm your husband. You want to repay a debt? I'll help him. You don't need to negotiate terms with me. From now on, whatever you want, I'll do everything in my power to give it to you."
So, was he really angry just because I tried to make a deal with him?
I pressed my lips together, his intense, burning gaze almost too much to bear. "Anything?"
He held my gaze and answered calmly, "As long as you want it, and as long as I have it, I'll give you everything I can, everything I own."
Anything I wanted, as long as he had it, he would give me everything he could, everything he owned.
It was such a sincere declaration. I might question Steven's character, but I didn't doubt the honesty in his words. After all, Steven never spoke of love; he disdained it, finding it cheesy. He rarely expressed his true feelings, not even showing much affection for Mr. Lancaster Sr.
I was a little stunned, my mind going blank for a moment.
What on earth had gotten into Steven to make him pursue me so relentlessly? In my past life, even my death couldn't sway his heart from the woman he loved. Did he suddenly have a change of heart and fall in love with me after I died?
Did that even make sense?
I suddenly had no idea how to react. "Oh."
Steven's eyes darkened. "Zephyra, I've told you some things once, and you didn't believe me. I've told you twice, and you still didn't believe me. After so many times, you should believe me at least once, shouldn't you?"
