I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 543

I had expected Steven to just give his brother a verbal scolding, like he always did. His usual response was to either ignore it or say a few dismissive words.

If it weren't for his indulgence, his mother and brother would never have been so brazen with me.

That's why I'd planned to use the slap to force Steven's hand, to make him punish Thomas and drive a wedge between the two brothers.

I never expected him to strike Thomas directly without me saying a single word.

Verna's expression was tense as she watched silently.

The onlookers, however, were terrified and didn't know what to do, so they all pretended to be busy, filling the office with the sound of frantic typing.

Thomas glared at me, then tears of indignation welled in his eyes.

"Brother, you've never laid a hand on me, ever! And now you hit me... for Zephyra! Are you really going back to her?!"

Steven's gaze was sharp. "Zephyra is my wife. When you hit her, you hit me. Apologize to her."

I couldn't help but glance at him.

Verna's face darkened. Thomas, seething with rage, exploded, "You want me to fucking apologize to her?! No way! You're divorced! She's not my family!"

He lunged for my hand, his eyes wild with fury. "Zephyra, stop pretending to be innocent! Steven's really fallen for your act again! He's actually taking you back! You must be so proud of yourself, right? Well, let me tell you, even if Steven loves you, I will never let you set foot in our home again!"

"Still talking back?" Steven brushed Thomas' hand away and pulled me into his arms protectively.

Without looking at Thomas, he said to his assistant, "From now on, he's banned from the company. Freeze his bank cards and arrange for him to go back to our hometown. He can reflect on what he's done. He's allowed back when he's ready to apologize and fix his attitude."

The assistant quickly replied, "Yes, Mr. Lancaster."

I was even more astonished.

Money was Thomas' lifeline. He spent lavishly on women, fights, and showing off—all of which required cash. He couldn't stand being broke.

Although Steven was somewhat distant from his family, he had never been this severe before.

As expected, Thomas went ballistic.

"Steven! You're picking that bitch over your own brother! You're freezing my accounts over a stupid apology? We're done as brothers! I'm telling Mom and Dad! I'm definitely telling them!"

He tried to charge forward but was held back by a group of people and dragged away, his voice fading into the distance.
