A knot formed in my stomach. For a moment, I thought Steven had figured something out, but he didn't seem to want an answer. Instead, he leaned down and bit my neck, hard.
I wanted to hit him. “Steven! Now I can’t go out in public!”
His eyes crinkled with a mischievous smile as he playfully ruffled my hair. “Then just see me.”
Steven left for the office.
The moment he was gone, I jumped out of bed. It was eight in the morning here, which meant it was evening overseas.
My original plan was to call Monica first, then figure out how to get the bidding information to complete my deal with Noah. But before I could, a call came in from my brother.
I was overjoyed. “Leonard?”
Leonard’s steady voice came through the phone. “It’s me. My phone broke a few days ago, I just got it fixed. I heard about what’s going on with you and Steven. He’s harassing you. Do you need your big brother to step in?”
He had just gotten out on bail. His own life had to be a mess, and yet he was still worried about me.
My heart softened. “No, it’s okay. I can handle it. Leonard, where are you now? Are you alright?”
Leonard’s voice was as calm as ever, though his tone softened slightly.
“I’m fine. I just need to stay overseas a bit longer. How is everyone at home?”
I bit my lip. “They’re all doing well. Grandpa has been waiting for news from you. You should call him when you have a chance; he’s really worried. Also… I know about you and Monica. Don’t worry, I’m the only one in the family who knows. Is there anything I can do to help?”
Leonard’s voice turned sharp. “Who told you? Monica?”
“Steven did.”
