My face went rigid. Steven’s voice was sharp as he continued, “You had better pray that nothing happens to Grandpa, and that his accident has nothing to do with you. Otherwise, I will not spare you.”
With those final words, he slammed my phone back onto the ground. He pushed me away, told his men to watch me, and then immediately got into his car, speeding away without a second’s hesitation.
My mind went blank, a sharp pain piercing through my head, so intense it made my heart ache. I almost collapsed.
I watched the car disappear into the distance, a single, clear thought flashing through my mind.
Steven was heartbroken.
The last time I saw him so heartbroken was at our child’s grave.
This was the first time in this life I had seen him look so utterly devastated. He had talked about leaving many times, thrown out countless threats, but he always came back. Only this time, I felt he was serious.
This time, Steven was truly done with me.
Rachel was terrified. She rushed to my side. “Zephyra, are you okay?”
My head had been throbbing, but the symptom had started yesterday. I shook my head, picked up my phone, and turned it on. The screen was still on the blacklist page, and on it was Mr. Lancaster Sr.’s number.
How could that be?
I would never block him. I navigated back and saw the sent message to Mr. Lancaster Sr. It read—
“Grandpa, my divorce hearing with Steven is tomorrow at three in the afternoon at the South Courthouse. Once the divorce is final, we won’t see each other again. I won’t see you again either. Please take care.”
It was sent at nine o'clock this morning.
My heart skipped a beat, and my face turned pale.
“How is this possible?!”
I had absolutely not sent that message. At that time, I was rushing to the airport, and I was the only one with my phone. Unless—the message was scheduled.
The only people I had been in contact with these past few days, besides the Lopez family, were Rachel and…
Suddenly, a familiar figure flashed in my mind, but I immediately denied it. “Impossible. What am I thinking?”
Horace. He wouldn’t do that.
