“My grandfather was good to Zephyra. If she says she didn't do it, then she didn't.”
Gordon sounded surprised. “You believe her, sir?”
“I know her,” Steven said, his chest tightening. His handsome features were strained, and a fire ignited in his eyes. “She’s the type to take revenge directly. If she wanted me dead, she'd come for me and only me. She never even went after my mother, so she wouldn't touch my grandfather.”
“But the text was sent from her phone. She was used as a pawn. Give this information to the police and have them investigate thoroughly. And prepare a global press release announcing my divorce.”
“Understood,” Gordon said, even more stunned. Announcing the divorce meant this was a final break. “Sir, I just heard from Cheng that they're driving her to the hospital now. Should I... still have them come?”
Steven stared at his grandfather's pale face, his voice chillingly cold.
“Tell her to get lost.”
Gordon knew Steven. If he had ordered her brought back to the mansion, even to be locked up, there would have been a chance for reconciliation. But refusing to even see her... that meant he was truly hurt.
Gordon did as he was told, stepping out to make the necessary calls. Only Cheng's phone wouldn't connect.
He set it aside for the moment, remembering something more urgent, and hurried back inside to report to Steven.
“Sir, the company is waiting for you for the executive meeting. Mr. Thomas Lancaster is... making a move against you. It's a critical time. With the loss of two major projects, the board is already unhappy. I can handle things here at the hospital. You should go. The meeting starts in fifteen minutes; you can still make it.”
Steven gave a low, cold hum. “Thomas wouldn't have the guts to move against me on his own. Someone's pulling his strings. Don't reveal my current situation. Let them all show their hands, and I'll deal with them all at once.”
Gordon's expression turned just as cold as he cracked his knuckles in anticipation.
Thomas really shouldn't be challenging Steven. Steven was a master at playing the long game; Thomas was no match for him.
“Understood, sir.”
