Panicked and furious, Rachel glared at Steven.

“Now I finally understand why Zephyra could never feel your love. You obviously care about her, so why must you say such horrible things instead of just being kind for once?”

“Zephyra is in danger! Who has time to play games with you? I'm going out of my mind with worry!”

Rachel was on the verge of breaking down. She felt like she had personally sent her best friend to her death, and the guilt was crushing her. But she was terrified that telling the truth would cost her everything.

She bit down hard on her lip, splitting it open again. “Just go,” she said, tasting blood. “Whatever you think Zephyra did, whatever price you wanted her to pay... falling from that bridge... whether she lives or dies, it's more than enough.”

Then, as if remembering something, she fumbled in her bag, pulled out a small box, and shoved it into his hands.

“These are the wedding rings and that bracelet. Zephyra told me to give them back to you! She said she doesn't want anything of yours.”

Steven looked down and opened the elegant box. Inside lay their wedding rings and the bracelet he had given her.

His long fingers clenched unconsciously, but his handsome face showed no trace of anger or despair.

Rachel's voice echoed in his ears. “Steven, Zephyra also said she despises you. She said you're like a persistent rash and begged you to stop harassing her!”

“Now this has happened... whether you believe it or not, and whether she survives or not, I'm begging you, please, just stay away from her?!”

In the dim, yellow light, Steven's tall frame cast a long, lonely shadow that seemed to stretch on forever, filled with a bleak solitude.
