Some were happy, some were miserable, but no one dared to challenge Steven again.
In fact, they treated him like a national treasure. After all, Steven was protective of his own. Siding with him clearly meant a bigger piece of the pie, and who would refuse that?
As for the partners who had wavered, they scrambled to get back in his good graces when they saw Aether Studio’s market value recover. Re-establishing their partnerships required signing new contracts at a ten percent discount. Though their hearts bled, they gritted their teeth and signed. But that, of course, came later.
Gordon had left, but Thomas remained in the office.
He stared at Steven, a dawning horror on his face. “Steven…”
“I don’t understand business, but you couldn’t have just seen that quarterly report today. You knew you were making a fortune, you held all the key information, and you probably even knew what Zephyra was planning against you. You were never going to lose. You were in an invincible position from the start, but you… you still let everything happen.”
“You watched Zephyra’s antics, you watched my antics, you watched the shareholders’ antics. You just stood by quietly, like you were watching a play, waiting for the right moment to drop one piece of evidence and win effortlessly. A massive, crushing victory.”
“I thought you would explain yourself, but you said almost nothing. You didn’t mention Grandpa’s accident or your own situation. And you didn't even have to. A whole crowd of people jumped to defend you. I don’t get it.”
“And those people who were so against you just days ago, who thought you were finished… now that you’ve won, you didn’t crush them? I don’t understand. But by doing that, you’ve not only earned everyone’s admiration, but they’re also grateful for your ‘generosity.’ Your loyal followers are now even more loyal, and those who betrayed you are starting to become loyal… I can’t quite describe the feeling, but I just think you’re terrifying. It’s like Mr. Lee, the others, and I… we were all just pawns in your game.”
Steven looked up and chuckled softly.
