His voice was hoarse when he spoke.
Verna looked up at him and rose with a smile, pouring him a glass of warm water.
“I don’t think we’ve ever been formally introduced. I’m surprised you know who I am.”
Horace didn’t give her a pleasant look. “Get out.”
“You and Zephyra really are the canon couple, aren’t you? Same temper,” Verna said, her eyes crinkling in a smile. She made no move to leave, instead placing the glass where he could reach it. “You’ve been searching for her day and night, even with your trauma, refusing to leave the water. Your devotion to her has even moved me.”
Horace’s hand shot out and wrapped around her delicate neck, his eyes filled with disgust.
“Verna, you were the one Steven cheated with. He must have been blind to fall for you. What part of you is better than Zephyra? Even if you succeed in replacing her, you’re nothing but a maggot that deserves to rot in the gutter.”
“Get out now, or I’ll snap your neck.”
Verna’s pretty, innocent face darkened. “Zephyra is just a villainess character! Why is everyone around her so good to her? That’s supposed to be my halo effect!”
Horace squeezed harder, showing no mercy.
“You know Zephyra and I are the canon couple, yet you still came here to provoke me. Did you know that in our past life, I wanted to kill you and Steven, that cheating pair?”
“You… you remember our past life too…” Verna choked, her face flushing as she desperately tried to pry his fingers from her throat. She squeezed out the words, “Don’t you… want to find Zephyra? If you keep insulting me… I won’t help you!”
The pressure on her throat suddenly released. Verna bent over, coughing violently and gasping for air.
Horace had lost weight, the gentle lines of his face sharpened into something more severe. “Where is Zephyra?”
Verna looked at him and slowly straightened up.
“Honestly, I don’t know her exact location, but I believe Mr. Lancaster has found her.”
