“What?!”

I almost tripped. But Nita clearly didn’t care about my survival. She was lost in her fantasy.

“Oh, shit. Just imagining it makes me hot. Don’t tell me you’re not, Laila. Imagine this-King Vaughn kissing our shoulder, while Prince Vance strokes our thigh-”

“Oh, oh, oh, no! Stop!”

I almost blacked out and toppled over.

This girl’s imagination was way too wild!

I ground my teeth and warned her, “Zip it, Nita! I’m not becoming queen. Stop with the crazy ideas.”

“But… At the banquet, I heard the Queen passed away three months ago. King Vaughn has to choose a new one soon.”

Nita’s voice suddenly turned serious.

I went quiet too.

I didn’t know the graceful Alpha Queen had died three months ago.

In the Rydar Kingdom, tradition said the king couldn’t rule without a queen.

Not just about tradition, it was about keeping the power structure stable and honoring the wolf blood-oath.

That was politics. No one gave him much time to grieve.

I just wonder which she-wolf King Vaughn will choose.

The heavy topic finally made Nita quiet down.

She curled

up in my mind and stopped talking.

I focused on running.

Chapter 106 Back to Silvermoon Pack

As I got close to Silvermoon Pack, before I even saw the den gates, I caught Pearl’s scent in the wind. Her pheromones filled with worry and urgency.

When I turned the corner, I saw Pearl and the others already waiting at the entrance.

The moment she saw me, she rushed over and threw herself at me, tears falling fast. “Ms. Conlay, you’re finally back! I was worried sick!”

I flicked her forehead lightly and smiled. “I just went to a battlefield, Pearl. What’s there to worry about?”

“How can I not worry?” Pearl sniffed. “That’s a battlefield… Mr. Kain and the others died there…” She choked up, unable to finish the sentence, and gripped my sleeve tighter.

Faulkner, the old butler, stepped forward. His light brown eyes were wet. “It’s good that you’re back. We … we prayed to the Moon Goddess every day, hoping to see you walk safely up this mountain road.”

Martha wiped her eyes with her apron. “Exactly. That place… It’s swallowed so many good men.”

Irene Harte, my housekeeper, nodded. Her eyes were red. “Being home safe is what matters. Safe beats everything…”

Looking at their worried faces, my heart softened.

All the cold, hard edges I carried back from the battlefield melted a little in front of our den.

“How’s the pack? Nothing happened while I was gone, right?” I asked.

“Everything’s fine here,” Pearl said. “But the Frostwhisper Pack is having some trouble.”

“What happened?”

I stopped walking.

Pearl explained, “A few pups from Frostwhisper ran away from home. Still not found.”

“Send people to help search,” I ordered right away. “And keep a closer eye on our pups too.”

“Yes, Ms. Conlay.”

After everything was settled, and I heard that Viola and the others were already asleep. I took a bath and went to bed.
