Her angry look only made the rumors seem more real.

The crowd got even louder. Some people couldn’t take it anymore and started yelling back at her.
Martha shouted the hardest. Her rough voice grated like metal on rock. “You pack of mutts! Your Alpha betrays his fated mate, and his new Luna dumps her own soldiers! Pah! Even neutered strays are better than you losers!”
The noise rose like a huge wave. Freya had no choice but to step back, her cheeks burning red.
At last, she roared in shame and anger, grabbed Elara, shoved through the crowd, and ran off.
People hurled rotten leaves and smelly eggs at them as they fled, splashing their backs. It looked miserable.
After they were gone, Laila and the others returned to the den.
She understood why Elara caused all that drama.
Elara was trying to shift everyone’s attention from Maris. She wanted people arguing about whether Laila took Ironclaw Pack’s assets and whether she tried to kill Elara. By spreading doubt, she hoped to take pressure off Maris, protect Ironclaw Pack, confuse everyone, and give the real culprit time to breathe.
Seeing Laila quiet, Faulkner persuaded, “Ms. Conlay, don’t waste energy on them. Greed will ruin them sooner or later.”
“Yeah.” Laila motioned for everyone to sit. “I’m not upset. It was just free entertainment.”
Faulkner added, “I’ve already contacted Ms. Sagewood to explain things. Cutting off someone’s way of life isn’t like gossip. People deserve the truth.”
Laila nodded. “You always think ahead. I trust you.”
Martha snorted. “Ever since I found out you and Holt broke the mate bond, I’ve been furious. They walked right into it today. I felt great!”
“Martha, you were amazing!” Pearl said, eyes shining as she copied her wide arm swing. “That old hag’s face looked worse than spoiled cheese!”

Martha looked shy, patting her gray hair with her rough hand. “Well, that’s because they pissed
me off…”
The heavy mood faded, and Laila finally smiled for real.
Before long, Rowan’s explanation spread across several packs. Her ability was impressive, and werewolves lined up to see her.
The news also reached Holt.
Only then did he realize his mother and sister had gone to the Silvermoon Pack to cause trouble.
He rushed home and yelled at his mother, nearly sending Elara to her grave for real.
At the same time, Samuel heard about King Vaughn’s three-month deadline for Laila.
If she couldn’t find a mate she truly loved in three months, she would become the next queen of the Rydar Kingdom.
“What are you waiting for? Vaughn is pushing you to face your feelings.” Griffin’s voice sounded in Samuel’s mind.
“It’s more than that.”
