Freya suddenly rushed over and tore the bills to shreds, then tossed them into the air with at triumphant smile. “Now that the bills are gone, there’s no need to write an IOU, right?”
I smiled. “No worries. I have copies. I’ll have a servant bring another set over later.”
“You!” Freya was furious, but she was only 15 and hadn’t awakened her wolf yet. There was nothing she could do to me.
All she could do was stomp her feet and shout, “Laila, no wonder the Alpha prefers Maris! Maris would never pull dirty tricks like you. You deserve to be cast aside!”
“Are you done throwing your tantrum, Freya? You have no right to lecture me.” I let out a cold laugh. “Weren’t you the one who said you’d return everything I ever gave you? Then bring it all back before you start running your mouth.”
Freya froze, then lifted her chin stubbornly. “Why should I? Those were gifts. Who ever heard of taking back something you gave away?”
“And who ever heard of accepting someone’s gifts only to turn around and insult them?” I replied icily.
Freya was momentarily speechless, but then she snapped, “Just you wait! I’ll have the Alpha break the mate bond and throw you out!”
“Be my guest!”
I shot back coldly, then turned to Elara, whose face had gone dark with anger. “I’ll have another copy of those bills sent to you later, Mrs. Enclaw.”
With that, I walked away.
I hadn’t gone far when I heard the servants’ panicked cries from the courtyard.
“Mrs. Enclaw has fainted! Someone fetch Dr. Sagewood!”
Rowan?
She wouldn’t be coming.
A cold smile crossed my lips as I kept walking without missing a step.

Holt’s POV:
Money. I needed money…
I’d spent the whole day going around to friends trying to borrow some, but all I managed to scrape together was 1,000 dollars. That still left me 49,000 short.
Of course, if I could swallow my pride and ask the nobles in the capital, borrowing 20,000 or 30,000 wouldn’t be a problem. After all, I’d just returned from a victorious war, and everyone was eager to curry favor with me.
But I couldn’t bring myself to do it.
Borrowing money was already awkward enough Why would I want to humiliate myself?
After thinking it over, I decided it would be better to just ask Laila. Before the Silvermoon Pack was destroyed, they had been incredibly wealthy. Laila’s accounts held over a hundred million.
If I had to swallow my pride, I’d rather it be with her. To bend for anyone else would’ve been
worse.
On my way home, I ran into Freya, who was storming off in a rage. Before I could even ask what had happened, she blurted out, “Holt, hurry back! Mom’s about to be driven to death by Laila!”
The moment I heard Laila’s name again, irritation flared up inside me. “What did she do now?”
Freya said, “She’s demanding we pay back every cent she spent on the pack this past year! You have no idea how ridiculous those bills are. They claim she spent 500,000 on us!”
Five hundred thousand? That number stunned me. The entire pack’s annual operating cost was only around 300,000.
My brow furrowed. I never imagined Laila would have the nerve to fabricate such outrageous figures.
“I’ll handle it. I’ll have Daphne go over the accounts with her. I won’t take a single penny of hers, and whatever she’s actually owed, she’ll get But anything beyond that? She can forget it!”
I said coldly.
When I returned to the den, my brother’s mate, Daphne, rushed over to intercept me. “Holt,
