Years ago, inside the royal palace, young Morgana had only paused to admire the wolf-bone beads on Jenna’s dress. Jenna bent down, picked up a stone, and smashed it into Morgana’s forehead. Blood streamed down her face.
Morgana was a princess-the king’s sister.
So what? It didn’t protect her.
Samuel forced himself out of the memory, his eyes darkening.
The invitation from Estelle, disguised as a birthday celebration, wasn’t about family feelings.
It was bait. A bright trap waiting for Laila.
But Estelle had no idea who she was dealing with.
Samuel lowered his eyes and touched the charm at his neck.
He would protect Laila.
The next day.
Frostfang Pack.
At sunrise, carriages crowded the entrance to Hugo’s den.
A long red carpet stretched down the path, wet with dew, glowing like fresh blood under the light.
A few hundred feet away, a large shed stood on the open ground. Nearly 100 banquet tables covered the grass. Any nearby werewolves could fill a table and eat as much as they liked. It was Estelle’s yearly tradition. From dawn to night, meat and ale were served nonstop.
She called it sharing a meal with the people. In truth, it was buying praise with food.
In addition, she prepared a vegetarian feast in the Moon Goddess Sanctum’s side hall for the priests and saintesses.

Every year, the gold and sacred items she donated could fill the entire sanctum’s corridor.
Today’s guest list was huge. Famous packs from across the Royal Court had arrived. The Ironclaw Pack was invited as well.
Holt didn’t attend.
After learning his mother had caused trouble at the Silvermoon Pack, he stopped returning home.
Maris also refused to come.
So Elara attended with Freya instead.
Of course, she had her own plans.
Anyone at Estelle’s banquet was either rich or powerful. The Ironclaw Pack needed someone strong to rely on.
But standing among noble she-wolves in fine gowns and rare jewels, Elara felt that old discomfort creeping back.
She noticed the sideways looks sliding from the corners of the ladies’ eyes-there was no warmth, no fake smiles, and they didn’t even try to hide how little they cared.
They stared at her like some old antique that showed up in the wrong place.
She thought back to when the Ironclaw Pack used to shine.
She had just gotten married then.
The old Alpha was still in charge. The pack’s land was rich, its warriors strong, and the Alpha King respected them.
Back then, with the Luna title, she could go anywhere and be greeted with polite smiles.
But that glory was like a flicker of foxfire on the plains. It faded fast.
Her mate and her eldest son were nothing special.
Only her youngest, Holt, won back a bit of pride through his war record. He even married the Conlays’ only daughter.

She didn’t expect that, soon after Laila joined the family, the Conlays would be wiped out completely.
Without Kain and Diana, the Silvermoon Pack was left with just an “Omega” orphan.
