“If he dares not believe us, we’ll tear out his throat and take command ourselves,” Nita shouted wildly in my mind, leaving me torn between amusement and helplessness.
Leading an army wasn’t the same as fighting alone as a rogue. Victory didn’t go to whoever had sharper claws.
And Samuel carried the weight of blood, fire, and authority, an aura forged through countless moonlit battles.
If I truly bared my fangs at him, the hundreds of thousands of warriors outside would tear me apart before I took a second step, even if I was General Conlay’s daughter.
As that thought settled in, Prince Vance shook his head. “You used the wrong approach. You should’ve told the King the intelligence came from Shane. He respects Shane. He would’ve believed it.”
“Well … I did say that,” I admitted, scratching my head. “But I forged my senior’s handwriting, and he saw through it.”
Silence fell. Samuel’s face stayed stern, though I caught the faintest lift at the corner of his mouth before it vanished.
“Alright. I understand.”
“Wait,” I blurted out. “You mean you believe me?”
I looked straight at him.
Samuel nodded. “I do. I know Tracy. She’s the best intelligence gatherer at Moonlight Academy. Her information won’t be wrong.”
I let out a long breath. I hadn’t expected him to know Moonlight Academy so well, but it didn’t matter. He believed me.
The weight I’d carried all the way here finally eased, and exhaustion crashed in at once. My legs gave out, and I sank onto the mat without worrying about decorum.
Nita had only just been unsealed, and I hadn’t pushed myself like this in a long time.
Samuel looked me over. “You’re exhausted. How long did it take you to get
here?”
“Five days,” I said, breathing lightly.

“Not bad.” He said it flatly, then raised his voice Bring in some meat.”
“Yes. General!” came the shout from outside.

“Not bad?” Nita exploded. “We sprinted here from Silvermoon Pack, crossed three hostile territories, and that’s all he says? Let him try running five days from the Royal Court himself!”
“Calm down.” I told her. “To someone who’s survived real bloodshed, this probably doesn’t mean much.”
After comforting Nita, I turned back to Prince Vance. “Your Highness, what will you do next? Send word to the Royal Court immediately and ask the Alpha King for reinforcements?”
Samuel leaned back against the table, long dark fingers tapping his leg. “I’ll start recruiting first. Even if we request aid, reinforcements take time. To survive the opening battle, we need more troops and more supplies.”
