When I woke up the next morning, and for several days after. I didn’t see Samuel at all. Nor did I run into any of my father’s former subordinates.

No one restricted my movements. I could come and go freely, and recruitment had already begun.

Prince Vance’s influence was undeniable. In just a few days, he’d recruited 5,000 werewolves, most of them Betas.

At this pace, bringing in tens of thousands before the Solantian forces arrived wouldn’t be a problem.

The problem was that fresh recruits had no battlefield experience. Sending them straight into combat would be little more than throwing lives away.

Sensing my concern, the Gamma assigned to look after me. Woodrow Arnold, explained. “The new soldiers have already started training. That’s why all the commanders are tied up right now.

“Is there anything I can help with?” I asked.

I didn’t mention training the recruits. I’d studied at Moonlight Academy, listened to my father and brothers talk about war, and read plenty of military texts, but I’d never fought a real battle. Everything I knew stopped at theory

To my surprise, Woodrow nodded. “Actually, yes. A few people arrived early this morning asking for you. His Highness is still verifying their identities. You should go see if they’re your friends.”

My heart jumped. “They must be my classmates. Take me to them.”

Woodrow broke into a jog, and I followed.

From a distance, I spotted several familiar figures. I shifted into my wolf form and sprinted ahead, letting out a howl when I reached them.

The four across from me shifted as well, answering with a couple of sharp howls before we all returned to human form.

The boy in front snorted. “Laila, your alpha presence isn’t as strong as it used to be.”

“Stick, your pressure’s stronger than before,” I shot back cheerfully. “And you got taller.”

Moonlight Academy didn’t have many students, but it was divided into eight divisions, each with its own mentor.

Stick was from the Ancient Moon division, a solid, broad-shouldered male standing over six feet tall

Manu. Chase, and Viola crowded in next all talking at once.

Laila, is it true you got married?”

Your mate’s a general right? Holt Enclaw?”

The teachers wouldn’t let us leave, and we couldn’t find any news about you. We even went to ask your mentor. He was terrifying

“I still can’t believe you got married. With that wild temper of yours, how could you ever be a pack’s Luna?”

Their voices overlapped like a flock of noisy birds. I finally shouted. “Enough. Now’s not the time for this. They’re recruiting. Let’s enlist and wipe out those Ovilan bastards together. How about it?”

“Sounds great!”
