Laila’s POV:

“No. We can’t go back,” I said.

“Why not?” Nita roared inside my head. “Don’t you hate her? Don’t you want to tear out her

throat?”

“I do hate her,” I snapped back. “More than anyone.”

If she hadn’t ordered those massacres, if she hadn’t tortured prisoners in such brutal ways, my mother, my sisters-in-law, my nephew, my people would still be alive.

But I couldn’t go back. Not now.

Vagen Battlefield was hanging by a thread. Every fighter who stayed meant more lives saved. And Maris’s life still had other uses.

So I endured it. Even if my eyes burned red and my mouth tasted of blood, I endured it.

Because if I didn’t, the fallout wouldn’t stop at Vagen. It would cost my grandfather his life as well.

I didn’t have many family members left.

If the Solantian wolves hadn’t joined the war, Prince Vance would’ve reclaimed Vagen sooner or later. But now everything had changed. With this added variable, how many more warriors would die, never making it home?

Too many emotions churned inside me. Nita raged, clawing at the edges of my restraint.

I shifted into my wolf form and charged out, running hard and relentlessly.

I ran for two hours straight, until I realized four alpha wolves were pacing me from behind. They were Stick, Manu and Chase.

They didn’t say a word. They just ran with me, lap after lap, until my chest finally loosened and my mind went quiet. When I shifted back, they did too.

“You guys…” I started, not knowing what to say.

They only smiled, perfectly in sync. “We’re starving. Let’s go eat.”

I laughed. “Yeah.”

After we ate together, the heaviness finally lifted. No matter what lay ahead, I wasn’t alone. I had companions. And Maris would pay for what she’d done, sooner or later.

We didn’t return to the tents. Instead, we slung our arms over one another’s shoulders and climbed a small hill near the camp.

Five of us lay back, staring up at the sky. The sunlight was warm, the post-snow air clear and bright.

“Laila.” Chase said suddenly, “I heard your ex-mate is coming with that new Luna as reinforcement. Won’t it be awkward when you see them?”

“What’s awkward about it?” Viola snorted, her expression turning cold. “Just treat them like they don’t exist. They’re not worth looking at.”

Manu turned to me. “Why did your mother even marry you off to Holt in the first place?”

He was my fate mate,” I said. “And he swore before the Moon Goddess that he’d love only me and never encroach on Silvermoon Pack’s territory.” I blinked. “Mother probably believed him. Thought vows made before the Moon Goddess had to be sincere.”

“Damn,” Chase cursed. “He swore to the Moon Goddess and still betrayed you?”

“That bastard,” Manu growled. “When we meet him, I’ll beat him for you. Men who break sacred vows always pay for it.”

“Then I’ll thank you in advance,” I said, smiling Warmth spread through my chest.

The calm didn’t last long. The second and third battles came quickly after.

The Ovilan and Solantian forces fought ferociously. Prince Vance adjusted our strategy, ordering us to cripple rather than kill whenever possible, tearing limbs instead of throats. It flooded the enemy with wounded.

Wolf healers were never enough. Soldiers had to be pulled back to tend to the injured, slowing their advance. No commander could afford to abandon wounded troops. It would crush morale.

Samuel’s POV:

Laila was exceptional.

Her companions were, too.

On the battlefield, five alpha wolves moved as one, seamless and lethal, shattering every encirclement thrown at them. Laila was the sharpest among them. She was precise and ruthless.
