It was the pain buried deepest in my heart. I didn’t dare talk about it, because once I did, it hurt so badly my whole body trembled.
I felt the breathing of the people beside me suddenly stop.
I buried my head into my knees, scorching tears falling in heavy drops. “They were killed by Solantia’s assassins. Not even the pet was spared. I was still Holt’s Luna back then, living in Ironclaw Pack, so I had escaped the massacre. But if I had been there… If I had been home, they wouldn’t have died.”
Silence.
Dead silence.
They probably didn’t know how to comfort me either. When an entire family was wiped out, a few words could never be enough.
I sniffled, wanting to tell them I was fine now, but I couldn’t.
I had just lifted my head, and my tears started flowing uncontrollably before I could say a word.
How could I have been fine?
How could I ever have forgotten?
The tears wouldn’t stop, and I couldn’t even wipe them away fast enough.
“Laila, don’t cry. You still had us.”
The four of them rushed in and pulled me into a hug, telling me not to cry, yet their own tears raced each other as they splashed onto the back of my hand.
One drop after another.
“Were those trash already dead? If they weren’t, once we won the war, we’d hunt them down and get revenge!”
Shane rubbed my back, his voice thick with tears, but his teeth clenched in fury.

I shook my head. “Some of them were dead, and some of them escapred. Once assassitis slipped free, it was extremely hard to find then again
“Hard didn’t mean impossible. After the war. we’d find them!!” Shame smapped.
“That’s right, after the war we’d go find them!”
“Laila, don’t worry. They wouldn’t escape.”
“Okay!”
That night, none of the five of us slept well. We cried until dawn before the tears finally stopped.
Luckily, everyone’s faces had already been filthy to begin with, so no one noticed we had been crying. Otherwise, explaining it would’ve been a real hassle.
War was about to break out.
Our first feigned siege caught Ovila’s werewoles completely off guard. Their response was swift. They thought we were truly attacking the city and immediately gathered their forces block us with everything they had.
We put on a half-hearted fight, then withdrew
As we retreated, we heard their mockery.
“The werewolves of Rydar were useless. Theyhought they could take a city with just a few people, eh? Just because they had wounded some of our soldiers, they thought we couldn’t figion back anymore?”
Marshall Wanoe wasn’t anything special either What kind of tactics were these? Absolute
But some were cautious. “No, something’s wrong. Samuel’s troops couldn’t be this weak. Better wanci oun for traps!”
We exchanged a glance and sped up our retreat.
After two days of rest, we launched the second siege.
This time, we sent in even more soldiers and made a huge show of force.
When we withdrew again, there were almost no voices warning about traps.
They only stared at us and let on mocking wolf howls.
