Chapter 56 Challenge Her if You’re Unconvinced
Laila’s POV:
“Wait, Nita, don’t rush it yet…”
I frowned as I replied to Nita.
Something wasn’t right.

Just two days ago, when Samuel personally brought me to inspect the armored war wolves,
hey had been perfectly obedient.
ey had shown no resistance at all to his order that they follow my command.
But now-only two days later-every single one of them was looking at me with open disdain and rejection.
This was definitely not that simple.
I didn’t stay there to trade glares with them. I turned around and left.
Mocking laughter immediately broke out behind me.
“Look, she ran. As expected, she doesn’t even dare to stand her ground.”
“The battlefield is where warriors fight for glory with claws and fangs. It’s not a playground for pampered Omega she-wolves. If General Conlay knew what she was doing, he’d be ashamed of her.”
What?
Omega she-wolf? Me?
My unease deepened. I went straight to Viola and the others-who had been training nonstop to improve their combat strength-and asked them to investigate what was really going on with the armored war wolves.
They returned quickly.
Their faces were grim.
“What happened?” I asked.
“I’m furious!”

Viola slammed her fist onto the table, splintering it. “Laila, I’m the daughter of a high- ranking Alpha, and they’re saying I’m an Omega servant you brought along just to attend you! They claim my job is grooming your fur and easing your anxiety before and after heat!”
Chase was also shaking with anger. “They said I’m your personal licker, and that I’m responsible for cleaning your claws and fur! That’s outright humiliation!”
Manu also chimed in, equally furious. “And they’re saying Stick and I are your private cooks! On top of that, we’re supposedly assigned to guard you when you go to the den so you won’t be harassed by other males!”
“What?”
I was completely stunned. What kind of nonsense was this?
“And that’s not all! They’re spreading that you never earned any first-class merit at all, and that Prince Vance promoted you only because of your father and brothers. They claim other generals killed enemies and credited the merit to you instead. Now they’re shouting that they won’t accept it and are planning to confront His Highness!”
Viola’s Alpha pressure flared, her eyes icy. “I tracked the source. The rumors started with soldiers under General Duffy. They’re calling you nothing but a pretty Omega face. Damn it, I’ll go bite her throat out right now!”
“Count me in!” Chase growled.
“So will we!” Manu and Stick chimed in.
“Wait!”
I stopped them before they could storm out.
“For now, this is only spreading among the reinforcements, right?” I asked.
Viola nodded sharply. “Yes. They’re stationed separately from the original Vagen forces. The soldiers who actually fought alongside you don know yet. Otherwise, there’d already be fights breaking out.”
“That would be disastrous.”
After so many battles, plenty of soldiers respected me.
If they heard these slanders, it wouldn’t stop at arguments. On the contrary, blood would be spilled.
Morale would collapse if that happened.

Chapter 56 Challenge Her if You’re Unconvinced
At that point, we might as well hand Vagen over to the Ovila Kingdom ourselves.
“What about His Highness?” I asked.
“He didn’t know yet, but he will very soon.” Viola replied.
“When we came back, someone had already gone to confront His Highness.”
That finally eased my tension a little.
“Then let His Highness handle it.
“He’ll suppress it.”
“So we’re just letting it go?” Viola grumbled. “Then can I at least beat up General Duffy to
vent?”
I smiled faintly. “She’s a colonel. You’re only a leutenant. Assaulting a superior means a hundred lashes with a wolfsbane-soaked rod.”
“This is infuriating!”
Viola clenched her fists. “I should’ve never enlisted. Everything is prohibited! It’s driving me crazy!”
Later that evening. Viola returned again with a grin on her face.
“Told you. His Highness is reliable.
“He had the instigators beaten with thirty lashes and then made an announcement. If anyone is still dissatisfied,” she said, eyes bright, “they’re welcome to challenge Laila directly.”
“Challenge me?”
I was stunned.
She nodded hard. “Yes. His Highness said your strength is undeniable. Anyone who lasts one full minute against you is exempt from punishment. Anyone who doesn’t will take thirty lashes.”
She slung an arm over my shoulder. “He built you a stage to establish authority. That kind of trust and decisiveness is way better than certain people.”
“Yeah!”
Manu nodded and replied, “I still think His Highness is better than Holt. You should’ve chosen him as your mate back then.”
