Maris’s POV:
Damn Laila! Damn, Prince Vance!
When they assigned the siege, I knew they wouldn’t give me anything good!

What chance would I have to earn any merit? Sure, my merit points would reset, but I had to do something to prove my worth to Holt.
These past few days, everyone in the camp was saying Holt regretted it, wanted to get back together with Laila.
No way!
I gritted my teeth and glanced at the silver-gray she-wolf on the wall. She’d better die in this
war! Damn it!
“Maris?! What are you doing here? Didn’t Marshal Vance tell you to stay with General Myker and the others in the rear?”
Holt spotted me and grabbed my arm, asking urgently.
“What’s the use of staying in the rear?”
I frowned at him. “I told you, I want to help you earn merit. The first-class merit of this siege counts the most. We can’t let Laila and the others take all the credit. Plus, later in front of Alpha King, you can mention me. I led the charge.”
“But you shouldn’t disobey orders.”
Holt looked flustered, almost losing his temper.
I couldn’t help asking, “Are you saying I shouldn’t be here? That I shouldn’t interfere with you and Laila?”
Holt shouted, “What are you talking about? This is a battlefield! We’re just coordinating the siege!”
“Who knows! Weren’t we the same before, meeting on the battlefield?” I shot back.
“Maris! You…!”

“Enough, Holt.” I admitted I was a little out of line, but he had pushed me there. “I don’t want to argue now. I have enemies to kill. I told you, Ill follow behind you and earn credit for you.”
“So what if Laila is the alpha wolf? She’ll never give you the credit, but I can!”
With that, I stopped looking at Holt and charged forward with my soldiers.
I hadn’t gone far when Holt grabbed me.
“Are you crazy? Siege attacks follow plans and steps! Doing this will only cause pointless casualties!”
“War always has sacrifices! We’re not afraid to die!”
I broke free from his grip and shouted, “Those not afraid to die, follow me!”
They were all my most trusted men, the ones who had done that thing with me before, so they’d never betray me.
The moment I shouted, they charged forward.
I wanted to rush too, but Bill grabbed me.
“Maris! What are you doing? Stop them! Doing this will ruin our siege plan!”
“What plan?! Isn’t a siege just about charging forward, risking your life for glory?”
I sneered, “You just don’t want me to steal the credit!”
“Bullshit! Are you out of your mind?!” Bill yelled at me, cursing nonstop.
But I could tell I had hit a nerve. He’d been caught off guard.
Right then, I stopped hesitating. I let my soldiers shift into wolf form and sprinted forward.
Bill got even more anxious. “Everyone, get back here!”
But my men weren’t going to listen to him!
They were the bravest warriors I had!
“Charge! If we make it, we’ll earn glory, we’ll…”
Smack!
A sharp slap cut off my words.
