His smoky gray eyes were deep and unreadable, like I hadn’t just grabbed his chest a second
ago.
“Nita, I’m blocking you!”
I snapped, embarrassed and angry, then shut off the link with my wolf spirit.
Everything went silent at once. On the cliff, all I could hear was our breathing.
Now, I could finally focus on fighting him.
Neither of us shifted. We stayed in human form.
His moves were sharp and controlled. Every block and strike felt planned. He didn’t waste a single motion, but the pressure he gave off was intense.
Little by little, my heated thoughts faded, replaced by pure fighting instinct.
I was shocked to realize that he knew my habits. He cut off my usual move from the left before I could even push forward. When my step slipped for half a second, he pressed in, forcing me to adjust.
Under his lead, I was unconsciously fixing bad habits I’d never noticed.
That wasn’t just a fight. It felt like a quiet lesson.
I didn’t know how long we went back and forth, but we both jumped back and stopped.
Sweat clung to my forehead, while Samuel…
Beads of sweat slid down the line of his chest, catching the moonlight as they traced over his abs before disappearing under his waistband.
It was a raw, primal pull. My eyes locked onto him like metal to a magnet. I knew I should look away, but I just couldn’t.
Samuel exhaled slowly, his chest rising and falling.
Then he stepped closer.

It was close enough for me to see the heat still flushed on his skin and catch the cool, deep scent of his pheromones. It hit me so hard tha my knees nearly gave out.
He looked down at me, his gray eyes faintly glowing in the dark.
“Laila.” His voice was lower than usual, rough enough to brush against my ears. “Your combar skills have improved.”
His hand lifted like he was about to touch my ace, but stopped just short.
His fingers hovered in the air, close enough that my skin felt like it was already burning.
“But your focus still breaks too easily,” he said lowly, staring straight into my eyes.
Moonlight fell across his shoulder, casting a long shadow behind him that seemed to swallow me whole.
I could almost hear my blood rushing all throughout my body, tangled with the faint hum of my wolf spirit even after I blocked her out.
I forced myself to step back, breaking that too-intimate pull, and let the cool night air slip between us.
After steadying my breathing, I asked the question that had been bothering me for days, “Your Highness, did you and Silas… make some kind of private deal?”
The silver glow in Samuel’s eyes faded back to calm.
He also stepped back half a step, putting polite distance between us.
“No deal” He shook his head. “He only sent a secret message. Solantia Kingdom is joining the war for one reason-capturing Maris.”
He paused, looking toward the mountain line ading into darkness.
