Samuel’s POV:

My wolf spirit never wasted a chance to joke at my expense.

“Shut it, Griffin!” I snapped.

I could still clearly remember her crashing into my arms. That mix of softness and strength was unreal.

What hit me harder was the way her fingers tightened for just a second without meaning to.

I wasn’t made of stone. I was a grown male werewolf in my prime.

Every part of me wanted to mark her, claim her and pull her fully into my scent.

But I couldn’t.

Bloodmoon Curse ran cold and deep in my bloodline.

Until it was broken, any deeper bond could drag her into a darkness she might never escape.

Griffin stretched out his words, enjoying my struggle, “So, are you just going to tough it out? Like a rock sitting on top of a fire?”

I ignored him and tried to focus on the battle reports on the table.

Vagen’s defense plan, the list of prisoners, the draft for talks with the Solantia Kingdom… The words all blurred together.

None of it was sinking in.

Griffin changed his tone, more serious now. “Just take a cold shower. It might help you cool down.”

I stayed quiet for a moment.

“No need.”

If I washed off the sweat, I’d wash away the last real trace of touching her tonight.

Griffin sighed inside my head, no longer teasing A rare heaviness settled in.

He said softly, “Samuel, you can hold it in for a night, a month, maybe even a year. But this curse has no clear end. Are you really going to keep waiting until the day you die?”

Griffin went quiet, then let out a long, complicated howl only I could hear.

“Laila is going to kill us… She knows everything!

Rhea’s weak voice echoed in Maris’s mind.

Maris hurt so much that she could barely breathe. After that torture, Rhea had no strength left to help her heal.

Her face, hands, legs-every injury burned.

Worse than the pain were Holt’s cold eyes and the clear disgust from the other werewolf soldiers.

“They want me dead,” Maris hissed, blood in her breath. “Why should I die? I didn’t do anything wrong!” Her voice turned rough and stubborn. “I stopped the war! I saved so many packmates from dying on the battlefield!”

“That doesn’t matter right now,” Rhea forced out in her mind. “We have to stop Laila from killing us.”

“Stop her…” Maris muttered.

A sharp, icy look flashed in her eyes, like a wolf at night catching a thin line of light through a crack.

“I know… There’s still one more place!” She forced herself up, her legs shaking. “I’m heading there right now!”

She stood up unsteadily, but her eyes were set and fierce.

Meanwhile, news about taking back Vagen swept across the Rydar Kingdom like a storm.

Sitting on the throne, Alpha King held the battle report tight. A hot tear slid slowly from the corner of his eye, tracing down his sharp face.

The four Beta deputies, the ministers, and the rest of the court were beyond excited.

The good news seemed to grow wings and rush through every street and alley. The whole
