My ex husband wants me back (Daven and Althea) novel Chapter 764

Chapter 764

“We’re safe.” Lydia tried to sound as calm as possible. “You should be careful on the way here.”

“Yeah, of course.” A relieved breath came from Chris’s end of the line. “Then I’m heading to your place now.”

“Okay.”

The call ended, leaving behind a different kind of anxiety twisting inside Lydia’s mind. Just how bad was Nathaniel Miller’s condition right now? If only they could leave Hong Kong immediately and return to SunCity as soon as possible.

“Are you… okay?”

Naomi’s voice made Lydia turn around. The girl was no longer crying, though worry still lingered clearly across her face. Lydia walked over and sat on the edge of the bed, gently taking Naomi’s hand in hers.

“Yes, I’m okay.”

“Is it really that bad?”

Lydia let out a long breath. “Yes.”

Naomi looked at her with watery eyes. “What can I do for you?”

“There’s no need.” Lydia softly stroked the top of Naomi’s head. “You should get some rest. Don’t think

too much about it.”

Naomi kept staring at Lydia, trying to persuade the woman, even if only a little, to tell her what had just happened. Even if she couldn’t offer much help, Naomi still wanted to be there for Lydia. To support her. No, not just Lydia. Cale too.

Slowly but surely, these two strangers had begun to carve out an important place in Naomi’s heart. And she didn’t want either of them trapped in something terrible.

“All right then,” Naomi said quietly.

There was nothing she could do right now. Pressuring Lydia didn’t feel right.

“Good night, Naomi.”

Naomi gave a small nod, letting the woman leave her room. A faint trace of perfume lingered behind, a scent Naomi was beginning to recognize as Lydia’s favorite fragrance.

“I should hurry and sleep,” she murmured to herself as she pulled the blanket over her body and tried to close her eyes, though it was far from easy.

Meanwhile, Lydia stepped out of the room, carefully closing the door behind her. The house was unbelievably quiet, yet that very silence only made her more uneasy. Outside, the rain continued to fall softly, dampening the dark trees surrounding the forested grounds. The dim yellow lights lining the

stone corridors cast a cold, suffocating atmosphere over the old mansion.

“Should I go after Cale?”

But she quickly abandoned the idea. Her husband was probably dealing with far too many things after what had happened tonight. In the end, Lydia chose to wait in the room that had been prepared for them.

She had no idea how much time had passed, yet she still hadn’t fallen asleep. More accurately, she couldn’t.

Lydia sat on the sofa near the bedroom window, waiting for someone who still hadn’t returned. On the small table in front of her, the dinner she had asked the kitchen to prepare had long since lost its warmth. The herbal soup, warm rice, and black tea originally meant for Cale had all gone cold.

Still, Lydia waited.

Every now and then, she glanced at the clock on the wall before returning her gaze to the rain outside the window. Her mind was still crowded with too many thoughts tonight. The way everyone had treated them when they arrived. Naomi, who had finally started opening up and blending in, only to end up experiencing something so terrible.

Honestly, Lydia had never imagined that something she had only ever seen in drama series would happen right in front of her eyes. And of course, it had left Naomi traumatized.

As if that weren’t enough, she then received the news that Nathan had been hospitalized.

Lydia let out a long, exhausted sigh and slowly rested her head against the sofa. Today had truly drained

her.

Not long after, her waiting was finally rewarded.

The sound of the bedroom door opening broke the silence.

Click.

Lydia immediately turned her head.

Cale stepped inside with slow, heavy movements. The black shirt he wore was still slightly wrinkled, and several strands of his hair had fallen messily across his forehead. The white bandage wrapped around his left hand stood out clearly beneath the bedroom lights.

But the most striking thing wasn’t his appearance.

It was his expression.

Tense. Flushed. Cold. His eyes looked sharp, yet beneath that sharpness was unmistakable exhaustion. He didn’t even greet Lydia when he saw her slowly rising from the sofa and walking toward him.

“Come here,” Lydia said softly.

Those two simple words seemed to shatter whatever restraint Cale had been holding onto all this time.

Without saying much else, he immediately closed the distance between them and pulled Lydia tightly into his arms. So tightly that Lydia could feel just how tense his body was right now.

Cale lowered his face onto Lydia’s shoulder and closed his eyes for a few seconds. He breathed in the faint scent of her perfume, and the familiar fragrance calmed him almost instantly. It mixed with the smell of rain and the lingering trace of blood still clinging faintly to his body.
