“Yes, I know,” Chris said, hiding his smile. “Do you mind if I come with you?”
Once again, Naomi stared at Chris intently, weighing her thoughts, until finally she said, “I want you to, but make sure there’s nothing going on between you and Felicia anymore.”
“There isn’t,” Chris replied firmly. “When you told me to go after her, I think... that was the last time I truly chased after her. There’s no way we could be together.”
“Don’t make someone else nothing more than a replacement, Chris.” Naomi still did not look away. “You need to be completely finished with it before you move forward with someone else.”
Chris fell silent after hearing Naomi's words.
“You don't need to worry about me because I understand your intentions too. It was only something you said to protect me, so no one would bother me. We can end this fake relationship easily. Especially if I find the right man by my side. I'm sure I can find a good reason to end this charade, and Mr. Cale would definitely approve.”
Without realizing it, Chris's hand clenched into a fist. For some reason, hearing Naomi say those words suddenly stirred something inside him. The thought of Naomi being with someone else...
Chris unconsciously shook his head.
“I just hope you don't hurt another woman because of your past.” Naomi smiled faintly. “You understand what I mean, right?”
Chris could not say a word.
At first, he had intended to answer casually as usual, change the subject, throw out a joke or two, then leave before the atmosphere became too serious.
But for some reason, he could not do it this time.
Instead, the only thing echoing in his mind was what Naomi had said a moment ago.
We can end this fake relationship easily.
If I find the right man.
Mr. Cale would definitely approve.
Strange. Because he should not care.
Hadn't all of this been a charade from the very beginning? Hadn't he agreed to take part in this arrangement?
Then why did his chest feel tight just imagining Naomi standing beside another man?
