“Enough! Drop it. I know my best friend is incredible. She’s not some average girl, so naturally, she won’t be staying here. You can give up on that idea!”
Having said her piece, Theresa went to find Elena.
Elena was already awake. She required very little sleep, likely due to her physical constitution; a brief rest was all she needed to recharge, leaving her with far more energy than the average person.
“Elena, you’ve worked hard. I bought you some food!” Theresa announced, walking in with takeout bags.
She unpacked the containers onto the table.
“Is this from *The Gilded Fork*?” Elena asked, recognizing the logo.
“Yep! I had their head chef make this specifically for you. I treat you well, don’t I? Hee hee!”
“You really didn’t have to go that overboard,” Elena chuckled, glancing at her.
*The Gilded Fork* was one of Cresden City’s most notoriously expensive restaurants. It was hard enough to get a reservation, let alone have the head chef personally cook for you.
“Sigh. Do you really think it’s worth all this effort to save a paralyzed man?” Theresa asked.
“It’s worth it. It’s a life, after all.”
Besides, her mentor had instructed her to do it.
Just then, Elena’s phone vibrated. She picked it up to see a call from Sean Maddox.
“Boss, I’m stuck outside the hospital. Getting into this place is a nightmare!”
Elena looked at Theresa. “A friend is here to see me, but he’s been stopped at the gate.”
“No problem, I’ll tell them to let him in immediately!”
A few moments later, Sean arrived upstairs.
He handed a file to Elena. “Boss, these are a few upcoming potential projects. They carry significant risk, so I needed you to look them over. I didn’t dare make the call myself.”
