Elena stared at her, blinkered. She hadn't expected Bianca to be such a devout follower of her alter ego. The girl had a sharp eye; she had spotted the stylistic signature immediately. Elena realized she hadn't hidden her tracks as well as she thought.
“Bianca’s right! Now that she mentions it, it does look familiar. You’re just mimicking Aurora! Have some shame,” a jealous classmate chimed in.
“Humph! I study every single one of Aurora’s works. I know her lines by heart,” Bianca boasted.
Swayed by Bianca, the admiration in the room turned to scorn. Elena gathered her things, ignoring them.

That evening, Elena returned home. Claire was back from work, looking happier than she had in years.
“How’s LUMEN, Claire?”
“It’s wonderful. Everyone is so nice, especially my mentor, Elaine.”
“That’s good.” With Sienna in charge, Elena knew Claire would be shielded from office politics.
During dinner, Claire dropped a piece of news. “Mom, Dad... I heard Emily is getting married. Did you know?”
Daniel and Amanda paused.
“Let her marry. Why bring it up?” Chris muttered.
“Exactly. She’s not a Whelan anymore. I saw her social media; she’s living the high life,” Jon added bitterly.
Daniel, now recovering well, took a bite of rice. “If she still cared about us, we would go. But she hates us. There’s no point in humiliating ourselves by showing up uninvited.”
“Your father is right,” Amanda agreed.
Later, Elena went to check on Dylan.
