"If you didn't do it, why are you so nervous? You have the guts to do it, but not the guts to let others know?"
"I didn't! It's fake! The video was taken out of context!"
"Whatever, if you say no, then no. Mistresses never admit what they are. They always insist it's 'true love.' Give me a break!"
The coworkers tossed out a few more sarcastic remarks before dispersing to do their own work.
Claire stood rooted to the spot, feeling deeply hurt.
Everyone in the company thought she was the other woman. She couldn't possibly keep working here under these conditions.
She wanted to resign, but getting into LUMEN Studio had been a hard-won opportunity. If she quit now, her career would be ruined.
For a moment, she was completely torn.
Nicole Evans came over and asked, "Claire, why hasn't Elena been here the past few days? Do you know?"
"It's like this. Elena ran into some issues recently and took time off. Once she's done, she'll definitely be back to work!"
"She might as well not come back. What kind of intern misses this many days of work anyway?" Elaine Turner suddenly chimed in.
Claire knew they were technically in the wrong regarding the absences and shouldn't have let it happen.
But there was really no other way. Elena had been extremely busy lately.
Just as she finished speaking, a piercing scream erupted from the other side of the room.
"Ah! Elena Whelan, how dare you hit me!"
Claire and the others were thoroughly shocked and hurried over to see what was happening.
The colleague who had been struck was the same one who had mocked Claire earlier, Tina Hallow. Her cheek was red and swollen; evidently, Elena's slap had not been light.
"You're exactly who I meant to hit. Who told you to spew such absolute garbage?"
