Jane stepped forward, smiling softly. "Thank you, Grandma. I'll make sure to network well at the party."
Old Mrs. Whelan nodded.
Cathy was immediately upset. "Grandma, I want to go too."
Why did Jane get the only invitation?
"Enough. It's already been decided that Jane will go. We're not changing it. If you're so capable, find your own way in!" The old woman's words were intentionally dismissive, meant to irritate Cathy.
But Cathy was stubborn. She was going to prove them all wrong. She thought for a moment and remembered Isabella Bennett. She made a private call, and Isabella happily agreed to take her as a plus-one.
The day of the party arrived.
Elena and Bianca also attended.
"Has it been a while since you attended a party like this? There's so much good food today," Bianca said to Elena.
Elena glanced at the dessert table. That was exactly what she was here for. She'd heard they hired a top-tier international pastry chef.
Bianca handed her a plate. "Here, you look like you're starving. Your eyes are literally glowing looking at those sweets."
"You don't have to stay with me," Elena told her. "I'll just hang out here and eat. Go mingle!" She knew Bianca attended these events solely to network and build her future connections.
"No need. Keeping you company is more important. I don't feel like networking right now. Once Sean is less busy, I'll ask him to help me figure out how to take over the Fairchild Group. Once I have the company, why would I need to network?"
