In the end, it had all been a catastrophic failure. She had been caught red-handed.
"I'm not like you, Elaine! I have absolutely nothing left. I'm just a rookie!" Nicole sobbed.
"Enough with the crying," Elaine said, rubbing her temples in annoyance. "Relax. I promised you that as long as I had a place in this industry, you would too. I'm at Prism Creative Agency now, and they won't abandon me. Besides, Isabella Bennett ordered me to do this. She won't just leave me out to dry. Even if you lose your job at LUMEN Studio, you can just come work at Prism."
Elaine sneered. "I just got humiliated in front of everyone, and I'm not scared. What are you so worried about? My dignity was trampled into the dirt today. Do you think you have it worse than me? The only thing I didn't see coming was that Elena was Aurora. I still can't believe it."
The mere thought of it made Elaine's chest tighten with suffocating frustration.
Aurora had always been her idol, the designer she admired more than anyone else in the world. And yet, the person she practically worshipped had just dealt her a fatal blow.
"You're right. Elena was just an intern who joined the company at the same time as me. How could she be Aurora? It's mind-blowing. I was actually coworkers with the legendary Aurora..."
Nicole was equally in shock, but knowing the truth now did her no good. She had an industry titan sitting right next to her all this time, and instead of learning from her, she had spent her days looking down on her and mocking her.
"Now I get it. No wonder Sienna always favored Elena. They knew each other all along, and I was completely kept in the dark!" Elaine realized, suddenly piecing together all of Sienna's inexplicable decisions.
Sienna had even dropped subtle hints in the past, but Elaine had been too foolish to notice. She had convinced herself that Sienna's bias was just because of Claire. She couldn't have been more wrong.
